GEORGIA  FDR’s Little White House, Warm Springs, 401 Little White House Road, Warm Springs, Georgia is accessible from GA Hwy 85/ALT US Hwy #27.  It is open every day except for major holidays. http://www.warmspringsga.com/warmsprings.asp#LWH

ILLINOIS  The Art Institute of Chicago includes the “smallest hooked and braided rugs in the world” in the miniature rooms collection as reported by Mariah Krauss on Sept 2, 2015. Located at 111 S. Michigan Ave, Chicago www.artic.edu

The Lincoln Home National Historic Site is open every day of the year except Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Day from 8:30-5:00.  (Two hooked rugs from the period similar to those pictured in historic drawings of the Lincoln’s parlors.)  Located in the center of a four-block neighborhood consisting of seventeen historic houses and outbuildings, visitors can experience this section of Springfield, Illinois, in much the same way, as did the Lincoln family in 1860.  # 217-492-4673 for in formation.  For a virtual, internet tour of the Lincoln home visit www.nps.gov/LIHO

KANSAS   The Eisenhower Presidential Library and Museum is located two miles south of the Abilene exit off Interstate 70, near Abilene, Kansas (At least 2 rugs on display made by Ike’s father – others in storage.)   All buildings are handicapped accessible and open daily, except for Thanksgiving Christmas and New Year’s Day.   #877- Ring Ike.www.dwightdeisenhower.com/librarymuseum.html

MASSACHUSETTS  Cogswell’s Grant in Essex, Beauport and Hamilton House in Gloucester, Massachusetts owned by SPNEA. Their web address is www.historicnewengland.org.. NEW YORK   The Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library and Museum, 4079 Albany Post Road, Hyde Park, New York, is the starting point for the complete “Hyde Park” experience, which also includes (within walking distance) the Springwood Mansion and, by shuttle, Eleanor’s Val-kill and FDR’s Top Cottage. 1-800-FDR-VISIT (Top Cottage contains 2 reproduction hooked rugs based on photos of those in use during the time of FDR.)   www.nps.gov/hofr

OREGON  Timberline Lodge, Welches, Oregon  on Mt. Hood, (90 minutes east of Portland) has a wonderful display of hooked rugs, many  reproduced so that the original rugs could be preserved. It was built as a WPA project and several of the rugs were made from old uniforms  http://www.timberlinelodge.com. PENNSYLVANIA Renfrew Museum and Park, 1010 E. Main Street, Waynesboro, PA 17269 45 Rugs from the collection of Mrs. Emma Geiser Nicodemus and Hazel Geiser. Variety on display in the period rooms on rotation. Fee and limited hours see www.RenfrewMuseum.org

Tuscarora State Forest Fire Building, Rt 274, Perry County
First TRAIL RUG in the US Permanent Replica of a Magdelena Briner Eby hooked rug on the outside of the Forestry Building, sponsored by Rug Hooking Magazine and the PA Forestry Dept. actual site is 4455 Big Spring Rd, Blain, PA 17006 Opening celebration July 8 at 11:00am.  Part of the PA QUILT/RUG TRAIL project www.PAQuilttrails.blogspot.com

VERMONT   Shelburne Museum , Rt 7. Shelburne, Vermont. They have about 300 rugs and exhibit them on a rotating basis. “Most of the pieces in the 300-plus collection were produced in New England in the 19th century. Among the 20th century examples is a remarkable group of 50 statehood rugs by Molly Nye Tobey (1893-1984).” You can visit their website at www.shelburnemuseum.org.

  WEST VIRGINIA  State Museum, Culture Center, 1900 Kanawha Blvd E, Charleston, WV 304-558-0220  Discovery Room 25 “Legacy of Craftsmanship” features a large rug with “hooked” border surrounding a garden design using trapunto technique to form the shapes.  Created by the McDonald Sisters of Gilmer County in 1970, the Museum has two other works by these craftsmen in storage.  Visit http://www.wvculture.org/ and select Museums for hours
